Good morning everyone…The Glider Academies are now being advertised on the NCSA web page. Note there is no longer a June Academy in the NER, it was moved to July and Springfield VT has been cut back to just one Academy vs two and therefore it’s now in the middle of August vs the first & last weeks of August, check it all out.

Please feel free to look into the other Glider Academies around the country too, last year one of our MA Wing Cadets soloed at the GA Wing’s Glider Academy, there are tons of opportunities out there. A great way to solo is to attend multiple or back-to-back Academies. Two years ago I soloed a CO Wing Cadet because he was smart enough to attend back-to-back Academies; and we also had a NY Wing Cadet earn his Glider Pilot Certificate by attending back-to-back Academies. The possibilities are endless! Good luck everyone.

We had a great time on a nice DRY weekend! Three brand new cadets came for their very first SAREX.  All of the cadets started their fires with only one match, set up their shelters and got lots of practice with compasses and search lines.

I asked Col. Nash if we could all go to the Bowling Alley on 29 July, and he said yes. So come prepared. The squadron will pay for bowling but anything like food or other games will be paid for by the cadet doing them. Any questions just contact me at afabond1@gmail.com, and I will answer any questions to the best of my knowledge and resources.

At the Rocket Competition the Lebanon rockets did well.  We got second on the medium sized rockets and our large “executioner” got blown up on the launch pad.  Our small rocket flew across the street (a very far way) with a much larger rocket than it should have had.  We launched these rockets two at a time and they were compared by time in the air. We had a good showing and a lot of exciting times with exploding and overpowered engines.

Congratulations to c/1Lt. Katherine Brechbühl who soloed during last week’s Northeast Region Glider Academy.

Brechbühl was among six members earning their solo wings. From John Williams, her glider instructor:

A record setting Academy and graduation ceremony: Six initial solos earning their respective CAP Solo Glider Pilot Wings along with their Soaring Society of America (SSA) “A” Badges. Four CAP Pre-Solo Wings earned. One SSA “B” Badge earned for a solo flight of over 30 minutes. One SSA “C” Badge earned for a solo flight of over an hour and a half! One Senior member initial solo, earning his SSA “A” Badge too. Three CAPF 5s successfully completed. Solo students to 7,300 feet, solo students ascending 4,300 feet vertically. One solo student flying for 91 minutes. I call these Cadets and their Academy, the Amazing twelve!
